One thing that makes the Lab's micro-credentials unique is the ability to unpack the competencies into their component parts. Beneath each competency is a set of discrete sub-competencies that students break down the skills. Some sub-competencies, such as active listening, appear in multiple micro-credentials. We needed a way to display all of the sub-competencies and their overlap.
Inspired by the DC metro, I began playing around with the micro-credentials each on their own colored line. The overlapping sub-competencies act as the hubs, like L'enfant plaza, where multiple lines intersect. This map has become a key element in the Lab's micro-credentialing work.
